Sabbats
Ancient sacred sites like Stonehenge in England remind
us of people’s longheld connection
to nature and the changing seasons. No one is quiet
sure how old Stonehenge is, or who built it, but it is angled
such that on the equinoxes and the solstices, the sun rising
over the horizon appears to be perfectly placed between
gaps in the megalith.
During the summer solstice, also known as the sabbat of Litha, Stonehenge becomes a
place of pilgrimage for hundreds of people who come to celebrate the ancient holiday at
this sacred site. Similarly, those who practice Wicca, paganism and/or neopaganism, also
celebrate the sabbats. There are eight sabbats in a year, marking the eight major seasonal
changes in the year (the four seasons of spring, summer, fall, and winter, and their
midpoints).
Our sabbat baskets are designed to help you join in the celebration. Each offers specially selected contents for a complete altar dedicated to a particular sabbat so you can do as
the ancients once did, attuning yourself with nature by paying homage to the changing
seasons as the great wheel turns.
